Start of Season/Practice Information
Monday, August 5, 2013 is the start of the Tigard Youth Football season. Please have your child available to start the season on the first day. All forms must be completed at this time including the Medical Release Form (submitted at Equipment Issue) and the TVYFL Player Contract (signed at registration). Due to insurance liability issues, there can be no exceptions.
Below are the locations and times for practices at the start of the season. These times will change as the season progresses. Refer to your child's coach for exact times and locations once teams have been formed.
||Fowler Middle School (football field)
||Twality Middle School (football field)
||Tigard High School (football field)
The Conditioning Period is the first five days of practice, starting August 6 (players do not practice Saturday or Sunday). Each player must complete ten (10) hours of conditioning before practicing in full gear. Players will not be able to participate in conditioning unless their Medical Release Form has been submitted per TVYFL policy (insurance).
Conditioning consists of two hours of exercises/drills each day. Water breaks are taken frequently. It is important to bring a bottle of water/electrolytes, etc., as it is usually very hot during this time of year – water is suggested. Players will wear HELMETS (neck strengthening) with MOUTHPIECES (safety) during the conditioning period along with short sleeve t-shirt, shorts, and FOOTBALL CLEATS.
TYF Player Evaluation will be conducted during the Conditioning Period. The Player Evaluation will be MANDATORY for all accepted players. The TYF PLAYER EVALUATIONS serve as a means to evaluate the ability of the player to make sure that all TYF teams are divided in a balanced and equitable manner. Players will be timed in objective drills and evaluated on football skills. Players will be divided onto teams the third week of August.
Practice in Full Gear
Practice in full gear will begin on the sixth day of practice for those players who have completed the 10-hour conditioning requirement. Full gear means all pads, pants, jerseys, cleats, and helmets – mouthpieces are mandatory. No player will be able to practice without a mouthpiece. You cannot practice in full gear if you have not completed the 10-hour conditioning requirement. Arrangements need to be made with your coach to complete your conditioning before you can be in full gear. Practice will be five days per week, Monday – Friday, two hours per day, until Labor Day. Players who miss more than 2 of the 4 August practice weeks will not be eligible to play that season.
Game Week Practice
Beginning after Labor Day, practice in a given week is limited to six hours. As such, three practice days per week will be determined by the head coach and communicated to the team. The first game of the season is the first Saturday following Labor Day. As daylight becomes limited, practice location and schedules may change to accommodate lighting resources. Game times range from 9:00am to the 7:00pm. Maps can be obtained from www.TVYFL.org. Schedules are determined by TVYFL, and cannot be changed. Players must arrive at the field at least one hour prior to game time. Players are weighed in prior to every game. If a player misses the weigh-in or forgets his game jersey, the player cannot play in the game. The last game of the regular season is October 26, 2013. Playoff weekend is on November 2, followed by the Division Championship on November 9, 2013.
Each coach is required to have a parent meeting to familiarize their parents with themselves and the assistant coaches. These will take place in the third week of August, after team formation. Further information will come home with your child regarding the exact time and place of each meeting.
